Middle School Digital Design Program (6-8)

Miami Community Charter School’s Middle School Digital Design Program introduces students to digital technology, business applications, visual communication, and marketing design.

Through hands-on activities, students learn to use technology creatively and responsibly while developing practical skills for school, future careers, and the high school Digital Design Program.

Digital Discoveries

Year 1

Digital Discoveries introduces students to technology, computing, and digital creativity.

Through age-appropriate activities and projects, students explore how digital tools can be used to organize information, solve problems, communicate ideas, and create original content. The course establishes a foundation for the more advanced computer-application and digital-design courses offered in Grades 7 and 8.

Students begin developing practical computer and business-technology skills. They learn how technology is used to create, organize, and communicate information in academic and professional environments.

The course may include digital productivity, business communication, visual design, organization, internet safety, workplace skills, and career exploration.

Students also begin working with Adobe Express to create attractive and effective digital content.

Year 2 – Second Semester

Students build upon the skills introduced during the first semester and apply technology to more advanced business and creative projects.

Using Adobe Express, students may create:

  • Flyers and posters
  • Presentations

  • Simple videos and webpages
  • Content designed for specific audiences

Students learn to combine images, color, typography, layout, and written information to communicate a clear message.

Grade 8: Advanced Computer Applications and Design

Students advance from template-based digital content into professional image creation and editing with Adobe Photoshop.

They may learn how to:

  • Select and modify parts of an image
  • Work with layers

  • Add and format text
  • Combine photographs and graphic elements
  • Prepare images for digital and print use
  • Follow responsible copyright practices

 

Computer Applications in Business 4

Year 3 – Second Semester

Students apply their accumulated technology and design skills to more advanced projects.

They may create marketing materials, advertisements, presentations, digital campaigns, and other visual products for specific audiences. Students also strengthen project planning, communication, workplace, and portfolio-development skills.
