Fashion Design Academy (9-12)

Miami Community Charter School’s Fashion Design Academy gives students the opportunity to explore creativity, design, and garment construction while developing practical skills for careers in the fashion industry.

Through hands-on projects, students learn how ideas progress from an initial concept to a completed fashion product. The program combines artistic expression, technical knowledge, problem-solving, and career preparation.

Program Course Sequence

The Fashion Technology and Design Services program includes four courses:

Design Services Core

Course Number: 8506405

Students are introduced to the fundamental principles shared by design-related careers. Topics may include design elements, workplace safety, tools and equipment, employability skills, and career opportunities.

Principles of Fashion Design Services

Course Number: 8506410

Students explore the foundations of fashion design, including fabrics, color, fashion illustration, garment construction, and the design process.

Pattern Design Techniques

Course Number: 8506420

Students develop skills in pattern selection, adjustment, layout, and construction. They learn how patterns are used to transform an original design concept into a finished garment.

Fashion Design Specialist

Course Number: 8506430

Students apply advanced fashion-design and construction skills to complete individual projects and build a portfolio that demonstrates their creativity, technical abilities, and professional growth.
