Academic Programs Highlights
Miami Community Charter School is Accredited by SACS CASI (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools)

Elementary / K – 5:

Core Subjects:

Students in grades K – 5 attend all classes mandated by the State of Florida and Miami Dade County Public School Board. Students use the State and/or district-approved textbooks and instructional materials.
Art, P.E and music is offered to all students. Students in grade 3 -5 have extended science instruction.

Additional Instruction:

Students in Miami Community Charter School have 90 minutes of additional instruction every day. ALL students participate in the Achieve 3000 program to receive Effective Differentiated Instruction in Reading and Math.

Teaching Staff:

All teachers are certified. In addition to teachers, each grade level has qualified paraprofessionals working with students during the school day. Two additional certified teachers work with small groups of students who may benefit from one on one academic assistance. ESOL and ESE programs and services are in place for eligible students.

Middle School / 6 – 8

Core Subjects:

Students in grades 6 – 8 attend all classes mandated by the State of Florida and Miami Dade County Public School Board. Students use the State and/or district-approved textbooks and instructional materials.
Each course is offered in Honor/Advanced or regular levels. Advanced students may gain some high school credits (Algebra 1, Geometry/Algebra 2 and Biology) before completing eighth grade.
Art, P.E, and music are offered to all students.

Microsoft IT Academy:

All students in grades 6 – 8 attend a certification Microsoft IT Academy every day. School’s state of the art IT Center and qualified staff prepare students to take the test and receive the Microsoft Certification as they finish eighth grade.

Students in Miami Community Charter Middle School have 90 minutes of additional instruction every day. ALL students participate in the Achieve 3000 program to receive Effective Differentiated Instruction in reading and math. Science instruction is supported with a similar program during the extended differentiated instruction.

Teaching Staff:

All teachers are certified. In addition to teachers, each grade level has qualified paraprofessionals working with students during the school day. Additional certified math and language art teachers work with small groups of student who may benefit from one on one academic assistance. In several classes, students benefit from a team of two teachers (co-teaching). Having two teachers in these classes increases student opportunity for receiving teacher’s immediate and direct attention.
ESOL and ESE programs and services are in place for eligible students.

High School/ 9 – 12

Core Subjects:

Students in grades 9 – 12 attend all classes mandated by the State of Florida and Miami Dade County Public School Board. Students use the State and/or district-approved textbooks and instructional materials.
Each course is offered in Honor/Advanced or regular levels. Advanced students may gain some college credits, attend college fulltime in senior year or take the option of early graduation.   School also offers selected AP courses.
Art, P.E,  as well as several electives are offered during each school day.

Additional Instruction:

Students in Miami Community Charter High School have 90 minutes of additional instruction every day. ALL students participate in additional classes to receive Extended Differentiated Instruction. In addition to Language Arts and Math, such courses are offered to prepare students for PERT, ACT and SAT.

Special Advance Programs:

Eligible students in Miami Community Charter High School may choose to attend one of the Advanced Career Path Programs. Students must enter in grade 9, continue until Senior Year and take the corresponded exam to receive one of the following certificates:

  • Adobe Specialist
  • Microsoft Office Specialist
  • Microsoft Office Expert
  • Microsoft Office Master

Credit Recovery Assistance / Fast Track Program:

Miami Community Charter Middle and High school offer an extended school program until 6:00 P.M. for those students who need to work on credit recovery and/or are working on gaining extra courses towards early graduation.

Technology:

Miami Community Charter Middle and High School run the academic programs through advanced and state of the art technology. Apple and Dell desktops, laptops and wireless printers have been used to create 150 workstations for students. Students also can check out the laptops for completing their school work at home. The schools’ new IT Center, as well as well-equipped classrooms, provide an abundance of technology for students and parents’ use.

Athletics and Extra-Curricular Programs:

Miami Community Charter Middle and High School is a member of the FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) and offers a full range of competitive sports programs for girls and boys. In addition, the school has several services, art and music based clubs, National Honor Societies and student’s government clubs that students may choose to join one or more of.   The school hosts college fairs and arranges several college tours for students.
